Katy Lewis has it all: a sports reporting job she loves, a great roommate, and two brothers who, while nosy, always have her back. But when Conner Roberts, Katy’s unrequited first crush, suddenly shows up—and shows interest—after nine years, she reverts to a sweaty, panicked sixteen-year-old once more.

And if trying to read Conner’s signals isn’t tough enough, Katy’s heart is sending some mixed messages of its own. When a beautiful blonde coworker starts pursuing Katy’s boss, Dylan Sterling—her longtime mentor and friend—she realizes she may have a problem with that. A reunion with Conner is what she’s dreamed of for so long…so why can’t she stop thinking about Dylan?

For the first time ever, Katy must fact-check her heart. Should she go after the guy she thought she always wanted or see if there’s something more with the one who’s been there all along?

My thoughts:

Ah, the beauty of a good Friends to Lovers romance! Which by the way, has become one of my favorite romance tropes!

I adored Barbie Bohrman’s Playing it Safe and I was excited to see another one of her novels available on audio. Her writing is so fun, easy to read (listen) and I love the female leads she writes. They are strong-willed, smart and witty and Katy is no exception!

Katy is a sports reporter; working in an industry that is dominated by males, Katy has always been on a road to prove herself. She is smart, witty but has this… shy tomboy feel to her? It’s hard to really put my finger on what exactly but there was just something about her that put me off. Not to say I didn’t like her because I did, but she was frustrating, to say the least. It was glaring obvious to me why she had her hesitations in place when it came to both Connor and Dylan, and the fact that she couldn’t communicate to EITHER ONE was irritating as hell.

The romance as a whole was cute! As the reader, it was OBVIOUS what was going on with Dylan and Katy and whew, this girl had some serious blinders on. We don’t get a fully developed romance throughout the book, we get Katy trying to figure her shit out. But once she does? BRING ON THE FEELS. I just wish she would have figured it out a LOT sooner so we could get more scenes between the two!

I have to mention my love for the alternating timelines. We get scenes of Katy and Connor first meeting and their friendship as teens. We get to see how Katy and Dylan meet, and a few extra scenes of them as friends as well. I enjoyed seeing how things began. The book as a whole was a little on the short side, which could have easily been a contributor to a few missing scenes, in my opinion anyway.

All in all – I really enjoyed Something More than This. It’s a fun and sweet friends to lovers romance. I recommend it if you are looking for a light, sweet read!

Friends to lovers is my favorite romance trope too! This sounds adorable especially when they get together but I hope I won’t want to slap the MC so she can come to her senses and see what’s right in front of her.
I’ll have to check this out!

I found this author from a blog post a while back. I read her book blurbs and thought I would love to read her books. I haven’t gotten to any yet but this one sounds really great. Love humor in my stories.
