With true love, there’s no such thing as a safe distance.
Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It’s both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.
At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?
I’ve been in a mood for a sweet & fun contemporary romance to sink into – and I’m so glad Not Quite Perfect was on my reading list because it hit it perfectly.
I adored the other books by Catherine that I’ve read, so I knew a little of what to expect going into Not Quite Perfect. I know she writes fun, witty, and likable characters. Not to mention, a swoony love interest. But I’ve also come to notice that she writes an element of mystery around the plot to keep the characters, and us, on our toes and I love it.
Told in both POV of Glen and Mary, we get two people who are both strong and independent, yet vulnerable in their own way. They come together after a year of flirtations, even though Glen is not at all what Mary wants in her life and start to build something… not quite perfect but yet, perfect for them. I loved the build up of their relationship – working through the kinks that would ordinary keep them apart. Their relationship is the FEEL GOOD romance and I ate it up.
In addition to the romance, I loved the relationships of all the characters. There are small threads that link everyone together and it was fun getting to know each one in turn. Yes, the characters are present were in the previous novels but I don’t feel it is necessary to enjoy Mary and Glen’s story.
As I mentioned, there is an element of mystery woven into the plot. It’s very spoilery, so I wont go into detail but I liked how it was handled in the end, even though I caught on as to what/who was going on pretty quick.
All in all – I (obviously) enjoyed it! It’s a fun, sweet, feel good romance that will be well loved by many. Catherine writes amazing characters and romances. I highly recommend it!
